Keynote Speakers and Instructors
Tom Munnecke, one of the pioneers of VISTA. An architect, strategist, and visionary of VISTA, Mr. Munnecke was a leader of the Underground Railroad, which was ultimately responsible for the adoption of VISTA by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA).
Rob Tweed is an experienced application developer and management consultant, who assists major companies with enterprise-scale Web applications In addition to being a keen advocate of the GT.M and Cache technologies, his areas of expertise include Cloud Computing, NoSQL databases, Mobile application development, Node.js and the Javascript language. He developed and continues to enhance EWD, a unique and ground-breaking web/Ajax application development framework designed specifically for use with GT.M and Cache.
Phillip Longman is a Senior Research Fellow with the New America Foundation’s Health Policy Program. His work on health care includes Best Care Anywhere, chronicling the quality transformation of the Veterans Health Administration and applies its lessons for reforming the U.S. health care system as a whole.
Matthew McCall is a member of the OSEHRA team, focused on Community Engagement and Business Development. As an employee of KRM Associates Inc., Matthew’s background has been focused on federally contracted services in support of healthcare initiatives. Apart from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Matthew has worked with Indian Health Services, Health Resource and Services Administration, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the provider communities of West Virginia all in support of the utilization of Health Information Technology. Several key projects Matthew has participated in include supporting production RPMS and VistA installations, the development of a C32 parser and repository for Comparative Effectiveness Research at Indian Health Services, and the development of a Personal Health Record compatible with RPMS and VistA extractions. Additionally, Matthew has participated in various similar healthcare events, including WorldVistA, HIMSS, and the mHealth Summit.
Luis Ibáñez is Director of Science and IP at OSEHRA. He is also a Technical Leader at Kitware, where he is one of the principal developers of the Insight Toolkit (ITK), coordinating its maintenance with other developers and the user community. Luis has been working in Open Source projects since 1999, and teaching a course on Open Source Software Practices at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute since 2007.
K. S. Bhaskar manages GT.M, a mature implementation of M that is currently the legal system of record for tens of millions of bank accounts worldwide, including some of the largest real time core processing systems live anywhere. It is also increasingly used for electronic health records, especially as a platform for VISTA. An engineer & computer scientist by training and inclination, Bhaskar has worked on high reliability and high performance software & systems for over thirty years. He co-founded WorldVistA, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that promotes the use of VISTA for electronic health records, and served on its Board for several years. He was awarded Linux Medical News’ 2002 Achievement Award, and WorldVistA received Wired magazine’s 2007 Rave Award for Medicine. Bhaskar has long been a staunch advocate of free/open source software, and is active in the Linux community as well as the VISTA community.
Rick Marshall is the founder and executive director of the VISTA Expertise Network. He is a tier-five, master-hardhat VISTA developer who has implemented, programmed, written about, taught about, and strategized about VISTA for twenty-seven years. He is the lead instructor in the Network's Paideia program to train up a new generation of VISTA experts. He cofounded WorldVistA.
Carol Monahan has recently joined the VISTA Expertise Network as Director of Support. Since joining VEN, she has concentrated on research and documentation in support of the OSEHRA SKIDS project. She previously worked in the game publishing field, where she managed Sales, Logistics and MIS departments.
Sam Habiel is a Pharmacist turned VISTA Programmer who has provided infrastructure and application support for VISTA and RPMS. He was involved in the Jordan Hakeem National E-Health Project and was involved in getting VISTA started in Thailand at Ramathibodi Hospital. He has ported the BMX Broker and the Scheduling GUI from RPMS to VISTA.
